The Necklace

Music by Conor Mitchell
Book by Conor Mitchell after Guy de Maupassant

Concert Performance March 2025

The Necklace is a ravishing new musical in development from the Ivor Novello nominated composer, Conor Mitchell, and his Belfast Ensemble.

Interrogating the constructs of media, fame, desire, and all that glitters The Necklace takes Guy de Maupassant’s novella of the same name (La Parure), and brings it sparklingly into 21st Century Paris.

Set against a luscious, emotionally responsive score, The Necklace asks us just what we’ll do to climb the social ladder and what price we’re willing to pay to achieve notoriety in the modern world….can love truly conquer all?

Reviews

“The Necklace is a work of great promise. A musical with hummable tunes and a story filled with angst, consequences and regret

“The singing was breathtakingly good across the board….a musical drama that is on a par with the best musical theatre has to offer”
